Amidst the shock and mourning over Cory Monteith’s tragic passing on July 13, there still remains one huge unanswered question — what caused the Glee star’s horrible death?

Cory Monteith: What Caused His Death?

After it was confirmed that Cory was found dead in his room at the Fairmount Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver, the local police department stated that the cause of death was still unknown and that there were no signs of foul play. Additionally, Vancouver PD said that autopsy will not be conducted until Monday, according to People.
Acting Police Chief Doug LePard also added that Cory was seen hanging out with friends the night before his death:
There were others with Mr. Monteith in his room earlier (Friday) night, but video and fob [keyless entry unit] key entries show him returning to his room by himself in the early morning hours and we believe he was alone when he died. When he missed his check-out time, staff went to the room at noon and found his body.

Did Cory Monteith Die From A Drug Overdose?

Will it turn out that Cory died from a drug overdose? Fans and media have already begun speculating based on the police chief’s statement, and also Cory’s troubled past, that he may have died the same way other stars like Amy Winehouse and Heath Ledger did.
“Drug overdose expected,” Samantha Ferris, a Vancouver radio DJ, tweeted.
“Cory Monteith, aka Finn on Glee, died. Looks like a drug overdose. How sad… Heartbreaking, actually…,” one fan also tweeted, while another said, “I’d hate to be THAT person but they think Cory Monteith killed himself with a drug overdose.”
Unfortunately it is an easy connection to make. Cory was less than three months removed from hislatest stint in rehab for his substance abuse struggles; it was the second time in his life he went to rehab.
The actor spoke with shocking honesty about his addiction issues in a 2011 interview with Parade magazine. “I was out of control,” Cory said, “[I used] anything and everything, as much as possible. I had a serious problem.”
We have to reiterate that Cory’s cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but if it was an overdose, it will be a tragic example of how dangerous and serious drug addiction is. It is something that some people, no matter how strong they are, just cannot escape.
